Surprise your Valentine with a relaxing massage. Not sure where to start? Keep reading to find out!
Be prepared
- Before you start, make sure the room is warm, the lights are dimmed, and there is relaxing music playing in the background.
- Try to be fully present: don’t let distractions or to-do lists take you out of the moment. If you’re feeling stressed, do some breathing exercises to help you relax.
- When it comes to massages, cold hands are a deal-breaker. Warm them up before you start by rubbing them together vigorously. You can also warm up the massage oil. Try to keep it within easy reach during the massage.
The massage
- Start with the back and then move on to the legs, arms, and head. Never break contact during the massage, not even to apply more massage oil. Keep one hand on your partner’s body at all times, allowing your hands to glide from one area to the next.
- A hand and foot massage can also be relaxing, provided you use the right amount of pressure. If the strokes are too light, it can tickle and feel unpleasant.
- During the massage, alternate between gentle and firm strokes using your palms, fingertips, and forearms.
- Start with long, sweeping motions across the back, then make large, circular motions with your palms.
- Use your thumbs to apply light pressure on either side of the spine. Avoid bony areas, such as the spine and the shoulder blades.
- Try to take your time! It can be tempting to speed up but slow, smooth movements are the most relaxing.
